This early-1940s Eversharp Skyline set pairs a standard-size lever-filling fountain pen with its matching mechanical pencil and period Eversharp presentation box. The dark green bodies are paired with Eversharp's striped celluloid caps, gold-filled trim and the streamlined profile that makes the Skyline one of the most recognizable American pens of the period.

The fountain pen carries an Eversharp 14K Fine nib. After restoration and writing testing, it produces a Fine line with a firm feel and little to no flexibility.

This particular pen also carries an unusual piece of its history. Immediately below the green derby, a sharply defined portion of the striped celluloid has become transparent. Based on the location of the alteration around the derby threads, I believe a lubricant or other chemical applied there by a previous owner altered the celluloid. The exact substance is still a mystery. The original cap has been retained exactly as found rather than attempting to disguise or recreate the missing pattern.  Once cleaned, it has turned into an attractive and unique cap.

Condition

Strong green color and attractive striped celluloid with vintage trim wear; unusual localized transparency below the fountain pen derby. Matching pencil and original presentation box included.

Restoration

Cleaned, polished and serviced; nib cleaned and writing-tested. Original altered cap celluloid cleaned, polished, and preserved rather than cosmetically disguised.

Known Flaws

Transparent/altered cap celluloid below derby; missing pencil eraser cap; normal trim wear and microscratching; age-related box wear.
