A vintage Esterbrook J fountain pen in the classic green marbled finish. This is the full-size J model, part of Esterbrook's well-known postwar J series of lever-filling fountain pens.
The pen is fitted with an Esterbrook 1555 Gregg Renew-Point nib. The 1555 is a firm fine steel nib originally intended for Gregg shorthand and produces a relatively fine, firm line.
This example has been restored to working condition, with the filling system serviced and the exterior carefully cleaned and polished. The pen has been filled and writing-tested following restoration, and the writing sample shown in the photographs was made with this exact pen.
Condition
Restored vintage condition. The green marbled cap and barrel retain excellent depth and gloss, with attractive movement in the material under the light. The Esterbrook-marked clip, cap band, lever, and trim present very nicely. The pen shows normal light surface wear consistent with age and previous use. Mechanically restored, filling properly, and writing-tested.
Restoration
The pen was carefully cleaned and serviced, the filling system was returned to proper operation, and the exterior was polished to restore its gloss. The completed pen was then ink-tested and writing-tested. As with any vintage pen, minor signs of age and previous use may remain. Please review the photographs closely, as they form part of the condition description.
